“In Oristano on the last Sunday and Tuesday of Carnival, runs for ancient tradition the Sartiglia, one of the last equestrian tournaments of medieval origin still present in the Mediterranean area. The race features masked knights attempting with a sword and a wooden spear, called stocco, to stab a ring in the shape of a star, suspended from a ribbon stretched in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, along the via Vittorio Emanuele.”
